Final RTF Task Force Meeting

Return to Flight Task Group Plenary and Public Meeting June 27, 2005 - Presentation

Statement From NASA Administrator Griffin on the Final Public Meeting of the Stafford-Covey Task Group

"As an engineer, I know that a vigorous discussion of these complex issues can make us smarter. I anticipate, and expect, a healthy debate in our upcoming Flight Readiness Review for the Space Shuttle Return to Flight mission, STS-114. We appreciate this input."

Editor's note: Richard Covey said that the Task Force will provide an executive summary of their findings to Mike Griffin tomorrow and will make that summary available to the public. As to whether the Task Force thinks that the shuttle should start to fly again, Covey said "the task force will not make a determination as to whether or not it is the right time to fly or not. We will provide advice to the Administrator."

Return to Flight Task Group Changes Final Public Meeting

"The Stafford-Covey Return to Flight Task Group will conduct its final public meeting at 1 p.m. EDT today at the Holiday Inn Capitol's Discovery Room II, 555 C Street SW, Washington. The meeting will be followed by a 4 p.m. EDT news conference at the NASA Headquarters auditorium, 300 E Street SW, Washington." Editor's note: This Real Audio link now works and the event is under way.

Editor's earlier note: Apparently there are some new webcast audio problems at NASA. Just before the Return to Flight Task Force meeting was supposed to begin I went to this NASA page and opened a Real Audio link. After hearing nothing for half an hour (other than a few panel members making note of the fact that they were being webcast live) I checked in again and that page now says "A link to the streaming audio will appear here before the event.". If you go to the RTF Task Force page it also points back to this page. The Task Force switched locations at the last minute - but apparently something worked for a while since there was a brief amount of chatter just after the 1:00 pm start time. This page also says "The Stafford-Covey Return to Flight Task Group meeting scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT has been delayed" So I am sure that has something to do with this as well.
