Editor’s note: Posted on NASA Watch at the request of the NASA Federal Credit Union: “Today, NASA Federal Credit Union discovered an e-mail fraud attempt, known as “Phishing,” that appeared to be from NASA Federal Credit Union. This e-mail was sent to the general public and to some credit union members. It instructed the recipient to click on a link to verify credit union information.”

If the recipient proceeded to do so, the link directed them to a false website and asked for account number, password and other personal information.

We have confirmed that the e-mail addresses receiving this fraud attempt were not obtained from a NASA Federal Credit Union server. All member information on NASA Federal Credit Union servers continues to be secure.

If you received the fraudulent e-mail and responded with any confidential account information, your account could become compromised. Please contact the credit union immediately at 301-249-1800 or 1-888-NASA-FCU (1-888-627-2328), extension 603. We will take immediate action to protect your account.

NASA Federal Credit Union never asks members to verify account information by e-mail. If you ever receive an e-mail that appears to be from NASA Federal Credit Union and asks for account information, consider it to be a fraudulent attempt to obtain your personal information for an illegal purpose. Do not follow the instructions in the e-mail.

NASA Federal Credit Union takes the security of your personal and account information seriously. We are currently conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this e-mail fraud and working closely with federal investigators.

Please feel free to contact the credit union at 301-249-1800 or 1-888-NASA-FCU (1-888-627-2328), ext. 603 with any concerns or questions.
