Close Call For Courtney Stadd

Former NASA official sentenced to probation, AP

"A former top NASA official has been sentenced to three years probation, six months of electronic monitoring and a $2,500 fine for breaking ethics laws. Courtney Stadd, of Bethesda, Md., was convicted of helping a consulting client get nearly $10 million of the space agency's funds."

Keith's note: Word has it from people who were in the courtroom today that someone from the JSC IG's office flew up from Houston so that he could be sitting in the front row in the courtroom as Stadd was sentenced.

No....$10M of taxpayer funds.

"three years probation, six months of electronic monitoring and a $2,500 fine"

BFD...Hardly enough punishment for the crime.

Hum… An ankle bracket? I guess the judge mistook a white collar thief for a guy who robs the 7-11. What crimes may he be inclined to commit that electronic monitoring will deter? He made $7,000 a moth off swindling one government agency for the benefit of another. So, he was fined about 8 days pay. Not bad. I wish I had the package necessary to steal like that. I’m sure he will still be able to find work inside the beltline as well. Gotta love America. If he had been convicted of holding an oz of cocaine then he would really be in trouble.

Courtney's an honorable man and a public servant who probably just made a mistake of treading too far over into a grey area. He hardly got rich off the transgression - which, by the way, was from a public university not some sleazy contractor. Justice was served; this is why we have judges who can look at the facts and make reasonable calls - including mercy. I hope he will be accepted back into the space community after he serves his sentence; he has contributed a lot over the years, this should not destroy him professionally when the true greedhogs of wall street who brought suffering to millions are already back to getting seven figure bonuses.
