Keith's note: With the "no change" period soon coming to an end 120 days after the swearing in of Charlie Bolden and Lori Garver, a number of people are worried about their jobs and/or the structure of their organization. True to form, Ed Weiler is trash talking people again - people who he fears might be considered as replacements, sacking advisory committee members (notice the change in science chairs on the NAC), etc. And with the soon-to-be-announced new MSL cost overruns and technical problems (possible bad batch of Titanium used and bad arm actuators) someone needs to get fingered as being at fault.
Given Charlie Bolden's personal code of conduct and the gentlemanly way that he seems to treat absolutely everyone he encounters, one has to wonder how long he is going to put up with this sort of "inside Washington" behavior - once word of it gets back to him. Stay tuned.

This as is an example of the difference between NASAWatch and journalism. Broad accusations are made here without any explanation or reference. OK, so you can't tell us where you heard about the "trash talking". Can you tell us what trash was being talked? "Stay tuned" is not a phrase my journalism teacher would have tolerated.
As to the changes, the NAC is Bolden's committee, and he and the NAC Chair pretty much choose who goes on it. Weiler doesn't "sack" anyone on the NAC because it doesn't report to him. The change of the Science Chair on the NAC simply reflects the change in scientific emphasis of this administration and pulling away from the previous lunar-centrism of the Harrison Schmitt era NAC. To the extent that Weiler can offer suggestions about how to best serve that new emphasis, more power to him.
Editor's note: "Heinrich" no one is forcing you to read NASA Watch. If this sort of coverage bothers you then go somewhere else. FWIW if I revealed my sources, there would (yet another) be a witch hunt inside NASA and an effort to get these people fired. I will not be party to that. But this bad behavior on Weiler's part needs to be exposed.
