Video Contest: Why Explore Space?
Coalition for Space Exploration announces video contest: “Why Explore Space?”
“Today, the Coalition for Space Exploration (Coalition) launched a video contest, “Why Explore Space?” to hear from the American public about why space exploration matters to them. Participants are encouraged to share their ideas by submitting a video. The creator of the winning entry wins an iPad3. Entries must be submitted by May 19. From there, the public will vote on the best videos.”
“Entries must be submitted by May 19”
Less than two weeks to create a competitive video about “Why Explore Space?” These guys must think that we’ve all got nothing else to do all day. Unless somebody has a video already done, I think the Coalition is in for a disappointment.

I guess you need to learn new video skills. People often do things like this overnight. Besides, the competition was announced more than a month and a half ago.
Keith,
True enough, if they already have appropriate content and the legal right to use it. I’ve done plenty of overnight videos myself, But since NASA stuff is pretty much the only readily available public domain video that would be relevant to the theme, I expect all of the entries to be similar, cutting and pasting NASA clips, with nothing particularly new and exciting. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the winner win because of the best original music.
Don’t get me wrong. I think this is a great idea. I just think that allowing more time for it would result in much better entries.
Steve
Then I guess you will not be entering the competition. The competition was announced more than a month and a half ago.

Keith,
Ouch! While I was typing a response to your reply, you changed your reply. Now my response is irrelevant, so I had to scrap it.
As for being announced more than a month and a half ago, I was not aware of this. Two months is a better time allowance than two weeks, but I still think they’d get more professional entries with more time. This kind of reminds me of responding to a military RFP.

I keep seeing organizations to ask people to make videos for pitches, more and more often. I’d still prefer a paper with details for decision making. A video is great for selling the look but not the substance.
Better yet, a video that epitomizes an accompanying detailed decision making paper with the background and rationale.
