CASIS Says: A Dog Ate All of Our Homework

Keith’s note: Here’s today’s excuse from CASIS as to why nothing is online at the CASIS website regarding the recent ISS Utilization conference in Denver. This was posted by CASIS employee Justin Kugler (@Phalanx): “@NASAWatch AAS was taken out for 2 weeks by the outage in the Northeast and we had to coordinate with them. It’s coming. Be patient.” Hmm. The storm in the northeast was less than “2 weeks” ago. Of course this begs the question as to why none of the CASIS staff in attendance in Colorado (many of whom live in Texas and Florida) were able to write a summary of what happened at the event, post their own presentations, or put something online that documented what all of these hundreds of people heard and said at this meeting. Amazingly, NASA JSC’s Liz Warren managed to get something online – yet CASIS is unable to even link to this lone summary. Utterly baffling. Is this inept performance by CASIS what U.S. taxpayers can expect from their ISS investment? CASIS continues to underwhelm and disappoint on a daily basis.

With all the money CASIS has they should have a top notch website by now with staff who know what they are doing. But no they spend their money on logos and golf promo meetings.

This is simply unexcusable, but CASIS is already carrying a lot of baggage. Those 400 who showed up to the minimally announced conference had some
    connections to say the least.

Too many inhibits the potential of CASIS are going to lead to a mediocre endeavor. ProOrbis which essentially awarded themselves a role in this are a for-profit investment and HR company that should have no part in this non-profit endeavor.

The root problem in this is that ISS and NASA have a huge cache of elitist snobs. The dreamers that had been an innovative force for decades at the agency have largely left and been replaced with power grabbing snobs. It’s simply pathetic that so many at the agency..a manned spaceflight
agency with potential to lead the forefront of humanity have lost their way in pursuit of personal endeavors and ideology. You could say this for other programs, but this as designed was meant to open up doors, not close them.

Jeanne Becker simply saw the writing on the wall. Soon she will look very smart, if not already.

$100 billion spent and no one knows how to post a few PDF files? Inexcusable.

GOI is your GUI gummed up?  You’re dropping packets and your sentences are fragmented.  I recommend you check your neuron and synapse coax connectors for corrosion or possibly dung.

CASIS isn’t carrying a lot of baggage.  When TSA checked the bags, they were nearly empty.  CASIS is rocketing toward success, can’t you tell?

What is your point about the 400 at the conference having connections?  Do you mean connecting flights?  I-Phone connections?

The AAS Conference was not minimally announced, the conference notices were out months in advance, although literacy is required to know that.

What does “Too many inhibits…” mean?

You should explain “mediocre endeavor” relative to the 400 and Too many.  Are you suggesting they wack most of the 400?

What is the relevancy of the ProOrbis statement?   What does “essentially awarded themsevles” mean?  The firm wrote a Reference Model on the ISS for NASA, but hasn’t been involved for over a year.

It’s hard to imagine the “ISS… has a huge cache of elitist snobs”.  The ISS only has astronauts and they tend to be too busy to be elitist.  We could float-the-idea (good pun?) that they may be snobbish, but I doubt it will fly.

You seem to have forgotten the basic structures that are in place in NASA.  It’s a large group of highly talented bright engineers and researchers that are driven and managed by political aims and forces.  Politics running technology.

As for Becker, her forte was in space and education, not in the executive realm of business. Perhaps lucky to escape, she burnt bridges that will remain charred for decades.

Thanks for assuming the role of grammar police. It’s a really important role on these comment threads.

“CASIS is rocketing toward success, can’t you tell?”
        They are rocketing somewhere.

“the conference notices were out months in advance, although literacy is required to know that.”

That’s surprising considering none of the 8 aerospace clients I work with over a diverse range of expertise received word of it until less than a month before it occurred. Oh, and if that is not enough, Keith pretty much covered the lack of coverage pretty well.

“It’s hard to imagine the “ISS… has a huge cache of elitist snobs”. “

        Nice interpretation there.
I would not call Astronauts that, never would or have. I was referring to civil servant managers to enabled restraints on what is known as CASIS today, especially with intent.

“basic structures that are in place in NASA…Politics running technology. “

CASIS was not supposed to be another political shell game. That structure has worked well for the agency hasn’t it? Spare me the response.
