A Video NASA (Sadly) Does Not Know How To Make
Video: A Toy Train in Space
“On Aug 24th 2012 we sent my son’s favorite train “Stanley” to space in a weather balloon with a HD camera and an old cell phone for GPS. He was recovered 27 miles away in a corn field and we got some great footage of the trip. This video documents the journey from liftoff to landing.”
Keith’s note: This gives me yet another excuse to link to my all-time favorite space video “Reach“ – which resulted from a NASA competition. True to form, NASA promptly forgot about this video as soon as it was made.
That was neat!!!!!
Digging the footings for the inner solar system railroad.
🙂
I never get tired of “reach”.Â
One hour going up and 20 minutes coming back down. Â I noticed that Stanley lost his smile for a while once reentry started, which I thought was a great touch. Â I’m sure I would have done the same thing in his place. Â Great job Stanley.
Keith,
I completely agree with you on this issue, but there’s a catch. Â NASA can’t run adverts on TV, and doesn’t have the necessary money even if they could. Â So, in all seriousness, what could they have done with Reach, or any other video, other than post it on YouTube, the land of 120 million videos? Â What could NASA (or the rest of us) do with things like this video to communicate with the people a large, instead of just the already converted?
