They said we are paying 2.3 billion a year for SLS to Boeing and ATK.They were suppose to review what had been done until now. They said nothing about how Boeing had made the production drawings for the core.2 billion $ for that?If GAO was doing their job they would audit Boeing to see what their costs where and if they were making a reasonable profit.I have seen images of all the draftsmen in WW2 drawing up an airplane, but today they have computers. So 2.3x 10 years.23 billion $ before the first crewed flight.
The core is  shaped sheet metal.$10 dollars a pound for material.NASA could do the work themselves for about 1000 times less.
I am back.Hiding did not stop the people that are stalking me.They were here last Sat. to talk about the Bible. The tall man looked like the one that came through my hospital room at 2 AM with some comment to harass me in ’01.Came in with the women that picked up the trash.Don’t use a dial combination lock.It was no problem for them.I have a cylinder type now and it seems to keep them out.It might be my neighbor from hell, across the street.I heard a siren leave from there.I can only hope he was arrested.I have seen wrinkled and white leaves leaves on my vegetable and fruit garden, meaning they have sprayed them with a weak solution of herbicide. This acts like a growth agent.Strong enough to turn a head of bananas black though. I wondered why I could not grow corn for about 10 years.Tinker I was disappointed in your rascist comment about naming a skunk works at SpaceX.Sounds like you are against SpaceX,your comments before this sounded like you like them. What are you a mole?

NASA is NOT giving Boeing and ATK $2.3 billion per year.  According to page 5 of the Charter for this hearing, NASA received $1.456 billion for the entire SLS program in FY2012; and has requested $1.304 billion for FY2013.  Boeing and ATK get part of what NASA gets, and NASA uses the rest for oversight and its own SLS-related activities — and to fund other SLS-related contractors.

Boeing’s SLS Stages contract number (leftover from Ares Upper Stage Production) is NNM07AB03C.  The FOIA public version is the RFP one from 2007, so it is way old, and still pertains to the Ares I USP.  That said, the Web site GovBudgets.com shows the amount of money Boeing received (perhaps) in recent years:  http://www.govbudgets.com/f… to that Web site, Boeing received $287 million in FY2010 while working the salvageable parts of the Ares I USP work, and $320 million in FY2011 while preparing to transition to SLS work (if it won).  The Web site shows Boeing receiving a whopping $873 million for FY2012 to begin the real work on the renamed “SLS Stages” (Core Stage and Upper Stage) contract.  That amount seems high, because if Boeing’s budget had really tripled, Boeing Huntsville would have been hiring big time, and there was no indication of that in FY2012 (now over). It would certainly be a lot easier if NASA released more information than just the top dollar amount on its Exploration activities.
