President Obama to Host White House Science Fair
“Today, President Obama will host the White House Science Fair and celebrate the student winners of a broad range of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions from across the country. The President will also announce new steps as part of his Educate to Innovate campaign, an all-hands-on-deck effort to get more girls and boys inspired to excel in these key subjects.”

    Folks:

Wow! Innovation is alive and well in America! The first three kids I saw had fabulous ideas that they were really making progress on.

I remember going to a science fair in Michigan decades ago. One of the displays was a microwave transmitter in a long Faraday cage with a hole in the middle. What you did was stick your hand in the hole and watch a signal strength meter drop. The builders told us it was safe but, if they increased the power a hundred fold, they’d be able to cook food with nothing but radio waves.

Seemed pretty far fetched at the time but the idea did take off, didn’t it!
