Senator Mikulski is the only reason JWST was not cancelled when Goddard overshot the budget by an order of magnitude. NASA should honor her by renaming it after her. The next time Goddard stumbles this badly she won’t be there to save their butts.

Not many retiring Senator’s announcements are displayed above the fold in the Washington Post. Her impact on NASA has been massive and immeasurable and yet does not even make the article’s list of her areas of focus (highway funding, Chesapeake Bay environmental issues and Port of Baltimore security). She has been a role model to so many of us as a strong, tenacious woman who stood up for what she believed in and worked tireless to achieve her goals. She will be deeply missed.

Mikulski says she will retire from the US Senate but not from public policy , ever

We can only hope she becomes a strong lobbyist for spaceflight , as needed. It will be needed.

Believe you left out Johns Hopkins and associated institutions, such as APL and the Space Telescope Science Institute, which have done very well on NASA funds.
