A Simple Telecon Is Too Hard For NASA Ames
The telecon for the @NASA Advisory Council Science Committee Meeting is broken because @NASAAmes does not know how to host a simple teleconference https://t.co/B66GSBVOWS

More audio problems. @Dr_ThomasZ is giving up.
So am I.
I hope the NAC/HEO mtg, which begins at 1:00 pm ET, has a better connection.

Keith’s note: After a series of problems the participants in this telecon gave up. You would think that a NASA field center located in the middle of Silicon Valley would have this whole telecon thing down by now. Guess again.
That is what happens when you attempt to use an ancient technology like telephones in the digital age 🙂
Sounds about right. We use Skype for slides and the old squawk box for audio. You’d think we could use the audio feature (or even video) on Skype, but no.
The audio feature in Skype is very nice. It’s easy for me to listen in to a conference at my desk using muted headphones.
Unfortunately, my telephone at work is literally early 1990s vintage and has no volume control for the earphone and it has no mute button for the microphone. This makes my desk telephone next to useless for listening to a teleconference.
Keith- you’ve posted about this and similar issues so many times and with so many different parts of Our Favorite Agency that you might as well create a template!
Perhaps with a picture of a DSN antenna? It is a little embarrassing when the reception from Mars is better than the reception from California. (Literally. MRO sends back data at about the right rate for good quality audio and at a very low bit error rate.)
