This is an awesome photo but we need a “Settler’s Club”.

Yes, true explorers from the days when NASA astronauts were sent out to boldly go where no one had gone before. Each one an American Hero!

While I agree wholeheartedly, I also long for the day when astronaut becomes just another job title like airline pilot, geologist, electrical engineer, and etc. We’re coming up on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and we are just now seeing significant progress on affordable access to space.

I feel the same way, but I think we can put “explorer” on the list of occupations, along with geologist and electrical engineer. There is quite a bit of unexplored territory out there.

Oh to have been a fly on the wall for the conversations these guys were having as this shot was being taken. A wonderful shot of an amazing fraternity of people. Thanks for sharing it.

Great honor!! Still, I hope their early astronaut’s wilderness survival training will keep them well, in handling all that Explorer “cuisine”: Iguana meat-balls, scorpion cupcakes, roach-kabobs, larva dipped strawberries, batter-fried tarantula …, then things get decidedly “exotic” from there. (If it were me? I’d hang out at the complete alligator table)

sad, actually, to realize that we have thrown away the opportunity that these outstanding individuals gave us

Sad, really, to think that we have not capitalized on what these awesome men gave us.

It reminds me of the times when most or all living U.S. presidents get together. History personified and always impressive.
