Shouldn’t be surprising that they will be following the pattern of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army since they are part of that heritage.

It’s the current Air Force camo uniform with a new service nametape. Note that the unit shoulder patch is still the Air Force one. (A Facebook friend is a reservist that will likely be assigned to the USSF and is hoping he can keep his current camo uniforms, as they cost him about $125 for each set.)

That would be good. No sense for the government to waste money to reinvent the wheel.

The Space Force did reply to some of the criticism, and cost was one of the issues they cited. By using the Air Force uniforms with different badges, they don’t have to pay to design their own uniforms.

Of course, or at least as far as I can tell, the Hoth snow camouflage uniforms are just one of Keith’s jokes. But the most likely places for extant, alien life in the solar system are icy moons in the outer solar system. (Ok, oceans within those moons, so the joke isn’t perfect…)

It’s the patch for the new joint US Space Command, so not an Air Force organization.

At least these have pockets. Patrick Stewart said what bothered him about ST-TNG uniforms was it had no pockets.

But yes need some “spacey colors” or is it really necessary? Maybe something to distinguish personnel are USSF members like we expect certain officials to wear specific type of uniform to identify themselves.

Heh, camo uniforms, reminds me of a Stargate SG-1 episode “Wormhole Extreme” where an actor mentioned why the bad guys always get shot is their uniforms are not camouflage.

Funnies aside, all services are required to wear the same pattern of camouflage now, as the 2015 NDAA mandated it. Even the Navy ditched its blueberries, and started wearing woodland camo on ships last year.

And don’t forget…some of these units do deploy into theater….Afghanistan Kuwait, etc. They are not all keyboard warriors.

“Space Force” is still an Earth-based command…so, ya.

I wonder if the Pentagon regards Space Force as some temporary silliness that would go away when an actually sane person enters the WH. Biding their time.

It looks like Japan is following the U.S., U.K. and France in creating its own Space Force. Given its rich Anime history I am sure the pundits will have even more fun with this… But seriously, this shows how important space has become to the world’s economy.

The US military wore the same fatigue uniforms for over 50 years before some uniform providers, politicians, senior officers and NCOs got carried away with service specific combat uniforms. The military services have wasted millions of dollars on service specific combat/ utility/ fatigue uniforms. To add to this waste the uniforms often are functionally terrible. USAF personnel complained bitterly about their tiger stripes. Then the major problem, not correctly identifying friend from foe in combat situations can result in a friendly fire incident.

I think efficiency is the way to go. Turning this into a fashion show and sending our people onto the parade deck looking like Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band will only cause Congress and the tax payers to mutiny. I would have suggested using the Coast Guard ODUs, which are shared with the Public Health Service and NOAA (the other two commissioned corps).

Similarly, I think the most efficient selection for service uniforms would be to use naval model of the PHS and NOAA but using USCG combinations doing away with whites and khakis. It would use the Army’s white shirts.
