Bummer.
I always considered Apollo 15 my mission because I was there for the launch. People forget that he did a space walk on the return trip to retrieve the film canisters from the service module.
How cool that must have been.
The first deep space EVA.
Yep but it might be safer say first free floating EVA because one could argue that the moon walks were EVAs.
Actually Worden died on the anniversary of the first free floating EVA.
The Apollo astronauts are leaving us more and more. Their foot prints will be there for a long time though!
So sad? A Hero of Apollo! Condolences to his family and friends.
So very sorry to hear the news of Col. Worden’s passing. I had the good fortune to meet Al on several occasions and he was a wonderful guy. In addition to all of his life and aviation achievements, he also was involved with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, a cause he championed for years. Many students benefited from his efforts to promote the Foundation’s work.
God Speed Col. Worden.
RIP, Col Worden. Condolences to family and friends. Another space pioneer now flying high and free.
Col. Worden was born just down the highway from where I am sitting now. Ad Astra, and Go Blue, Sir!
