What Our Russian Partners In Space Are Doing Back On Earth

Russia Secretly Offered Afghan Militants Bounties to Kill U.S. Troops, Intelligence Says, NY Times
“American intelligence officials have concluded that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces in Afghanistan – including targeting American troops – amid the peace talks to end the long-running war there, according to officials briefed on the matter. … The intelligence finding was briefed to President Trump, and the White House’s National Security Council discussed the problem at an interagency meeting in late March, the officials said. Officials developed a menu of potential options – starting with making a diplomatic complaint to Moscow and a demand that it stop, along with an escalating series of sanctions and other possible responses, but the White House has yet to authorize any step, the officials said.”

Cast off the Russian segment during the next Cygnus mission.

Except we can’t. The US side lacks reboost and propulsive attitude control. The US never invested in that capability and as a consequence the US side can’t survive without the Russian side.

Not that this would be especially hard to to. You just need to dock (or berth) something like a Cygnus that can be refueled to the location where the Russian side used to be. In orbit refueling is something the Russians have been doing routinely even with their prior stations. It’s about time the US make it routine as well.

If Northrop-Grumman conceived of a ‘Super Cygnus’ (Triple Barrel pressurized section) with a
refuelable, enlarged Service Module behind that; it could possibly take over the duties of the Zvzeda module. But then, there would be one less docking port at the ‘rear’ of the ISS for Soyuz or anything else. And there would be no need to remove ‘Zarya’ – that module was bought and paid for by the American taxpayer. It belongs to the U.S.

From what I understand, Russia never gave the US enough information to actually run Zarya. Specifically, the US can’t command and control it from the ground, which is kind of important. So while the US paid for Zarya, it belongs to the US in name only.

As I recall a previous President had similar sentiments.

Previous presidents haven’t fawned over totalitarians and totalitarian wannabes.

“I was really being tough and so was he. And we would go back and forth. And then we fell in love. No really. He wrote me beautiful letters.”–Trump on Kim Jong-un

Now the administration’s spokesperson is claiming that the President was NOT briefed on this.
I don’t know which scenario is scarier.

Confirmed by multiple papers here in the USA and UK intelligence. Read more!

Any way you slice this it looks bad for the current Administration.

Then let’s have Congress investigate to get to the bottom of this.

Nah, no need. Why waste taxpayer money on an investigation when we all know the final result:
      Congressional Democrats: Trump knew
      Congressional Republicans: Trump didn’t know
      LOL

I’m just wondering how many US soldiers died as a result of this. You’d think Congress would care, but you’re right. This would be turned into a partisan issue like everything else. Even wearing a mask to slow the spread of COVID-19 was made political, despite the science.

And Trump is a credible source? Should we review the list of false statements he’s made?

And what about the Washington Post’s reports on the Watergate scandal? Deep Throat was a confidential source. How do you know that the NYT’s source wasn’t confidential?
