How do 48% of Americans still believe in Trump who continually tells easily verifiable lies and is so narcissistic he cannot congratulate NASA and Space X on their achievement without trying to falsely take credit? I try to stay outside of politics on Keith’s fine blog, but Keith is exactly right to call Trump on these lies.

Do they believe in him, or are they voting for him despite his lies?

There are 250 million eligible voters in the U.S. the draft dodger got 28% of the eligible voter’s votes. That means 72% of Americans did NOT vote for trump. Not half the country.

Point taken, but the percentage of people who actually voted matters. What those who did not vote believe matters less in a democratic republic.

I also try to avoid politics on sites like this, sites with interesting content. But I have to echo Keith’s words, pointing out the lies distributed by trump. Why do millions of Americans listen to a person who lies so effortlessly?

I know your question is probably rhetorical – but you probably wouldn’t like the answer. 🙁

Simple. Those that did not vote for Trump says he lies. Those that voted for Trump says he tells the truth. Both sides have very well educated people arguing their point of view, though the demographics of these people are different.

I feel NASA is very vulnerable to become partisan like the EPA where appointees (administrator) and priorities will change with presidents. Artemis will have some new scrutiny but then everyone outside the space business have never heard of it so it may continue without being associated with Trump.

It is not a matter of beliefs or “very well educated people arguing their point of view.” It is a matter of objective reality.

I’m not thrilled to write what I did but I’ve encountered people well educated, calm, “objective,” etc. example they shared a video which they said is very important to watch (appears to be peer reviewed) but begins by bad mouthing Dr. Fauci in addition to providing evidence to support Trump’s claims about covid-19. I didn’t need to watch the rest, this person said, “that’s your problem Mike, you don’t watch entire video…” I could have replied viruses have no political affiliation but I did not, only deleted the messages and link. Reply will not change any minds anyway. Kind of like I don’t need to watch the full video that “objectively” explains we never landed on the moon. These deniers seem to be growing in numbers, they are accumulating a lot of power. Meanwhile general public gets more confused.

Many of these people, such as my father, only get their news from one source. And that one source corroborates his lies, so they think he’s telling the truth. It’s been interesting since the election seeing the division now that their favorite news source no longer backs him up completely with the “rigged election” nonsense. Some are turning to more extremist news outlets, while others are starting to cool off. Fortunately I’m seeing my father warm up to Biden instead of going the crazy route.

NASA initiated the Commercial Crew contracts with SpaceX and Boeing in 2014. That was a bold move, and we are seeing the fruits of that work now. NASA’s work for the country spans presidential administrations and is consistently funded by Congress regardless of party control. NASA is something that most Americans can agree on!

When president Obama was elected he said he was committed to a return to the moon by 2020 , President Bush terminated the shuttle and then president Obama terminated Constellation , yes it did have problems , but these problems could have been fixed, Commercial crew which actually started under Bush was never properly funded I sure I can remember reading this on NASA watch that various experts had said it was under funded .NASA was then left with having to pay the Russians who kept putting the cost up and pay for commercial development . To 90% of the public it looked like NASA was dead obvisley people reading this know it was not ! But it makes no surprise to me that President Trump would make a comment like this . at least he tried to do something about it . re authorising a return to the Moon and re setting up the space council . and I am not a Republican or a Democrat just somone in Scotland who ls interested in astronautics since 1968 .

I dunno where you get your space history but … the Obama Administration pushed for full – and some times expanded – funding for Commercial Crew and Cargo but the Republicans in Congress cut it back.

On the 50th anniversary of the 1st moon landing the US lacked the means to put its own astronauts into orbit. There’s plenty of shame to go around.
