Glad to see George finally made it.
George was critical in Shuttle and NASA Mir but like many of us, ISS refused to give us respectable positions, so George was sharp, jumped to FAA, where he became Associate Administrator for Commercial Space. If you wonder why NASA cannot get their act together, this is a prime example.
There has to be a reason an operation like Space X can get so much done, so quickly, so inexpensively, while NASA, on something like SLS can spend tens of billions of$$ and more than a decade, and there is almost no new technology, not even new hardware, it is all Shuttle leftovers. Both Space X and NASA have access to the same fairly young engineers and both have been on a hiring spree so I dont think the problem is the ‘rank and file’ workers. The same is mostly true within NASAs unmanned programs. The problem is, and has been for years, poor management in human spaceflight.
