Stories I remember about Col Glenn-

Daughter Lynn said that everything he did after those three orbits paled in comparison in his mind. He only went to politics because JFK judged him too valuable to risk another flight. (From “Spaceman” by Mike Masimino). If the reason for leaving NASA is true or not dunno, as he was 42 when he left NASA and Apollo was years away.

And this: when first seeing the glittering lights of night time earth: “Tell everyone thanks for turning the lights on.” (From audio of Freedom 7).

    The Right Stuff.

I saw him when he returned to KSC for his shuttle flight. At the age of 77, immediately after the flight to KSC, he stood in the hot sun for nearly an hour during the crew arrival event. He patiently followed instructions during the tedious preparations for the flight and never, to my knowledge, complained.
