NASA Needs To Buy 2 Vans in Russia
NASA JSC Solicitation: Purchase of Two Vehicles for the Human Space Flight Program-Russia
“Delivered to US Embassy Moscow, Russia The contractor must provide with the bid proposal a schematic drawing showing vehicle design and dimension specifications in the form of the sample drawing. Standard manufacturer’s pamphlet with the specific vehicle model being offered clearly identified and accompanied by a written statement in English by the manufacturer certifying that all solicitation specifications are met for the vehicle model being offered.”
A Vehicle for the Human Space Flight Program? I doubt that this vessel can reach the ISS or even the Orbit 🙂
Oh, nonsense! All it’ll take is a really long ramp and a really really strong rubber band (made in Venezuela) and a pressed gang of dissidents to do the pulling. The passengers can each be issued one large Soviet-era Navy scuba tank for the ECLSS.
Seems sensible. Cheaper than taxis. Especially to the ISS, though obviously a trampoline would be even more inexpensive.
In 1962 I thought I would be flying one of these vehicles from my sky home to the commercial Space port by now.
Automatic Transmission? Come on, don’t we know how to drive a stick shift? Sorry, that is one of my pet peeves.
Have you ridden the van from/to Sheremetyevo airport as well as Korlev in Moscow? It can make the 405 thru Orange County look like a cake walk.
This is quite riveting. I hope we can find out more details. What do we end up buying? Is there a copy of the sales brochure from a Russian car dealership? How much will two mini vans cost us? The requirements & specs do seem quite extensive. Perhaps we may have them custom-made to JSC requirements. Thank you, Keith.
After reading the specs, I do not think a vehicle like that exists.
