Kamala Harris slammed for using child actors in bizarre space video, NY Post
“All five of them are actors,” Carlo Bernardino, whose 13-year-old son Trevor was one of the youngsters taking part, told the Washington Examiner. “He’s a child actor — he’s been trying to do this type of thing for a while. And so he has a manager and an agent in LA and they send him castings.”
Children in Kamala Harris’s NASA video were paid actors, Yahoo
“The Vice President’s office did not select the kids who participated in the YouTube Originals special,” a White House official told the Washington Examiner. A YouTube spokesperson told the Hill that “compensation was handled the same way as it is for all of our other YouTube Originals shows.”

This can’t be true? Why do that? Makes no sense. And NASA doesn’t look good here… Were there not real young people interested in meeting with VP Harris? My kids would have loved to talk with her about space…must be others too. Shaking my head at this.

Absolute control of the entire event down to every question and the smallest ‘spontaneous’ reaction is the reason for doing this.

        A virtual Potemkin village.

Is the fakery of this VP/NASA event any more fake than Biden using a sound-stage copy of the Oval Office, so that direction/teleprompting is less obvious?

Maybe what is happening is not as much a Potemkin Village as that we are seeing a peculiar American syndrome of the merging of Hollywood with Washington D.C.? Where a partisan political establishment allies with a partisan infotainment industry for political power? Do I even need to say which side of the political spectrum this fusion belongs to?

I do find humor though, in how wrong the deeply caring partisans of Hollywood understand political reality. Hollywood acid-satire movie like “Wag the Dog” is played out in real life, but with the villain political party reversed. Camelot wish-fulfillment TV drama like The West Wing is met with the feeble wreck of the 46th Presidency.

I’m surprised she did anything public. Since the June stories (Politico, etc.) about her office being a toxic environment it’s been as if she were in the Witness Protection Program.

Wow! It is difficult for me to say how bad this is.

Given how cringeworthy the VP’s supposed enthusiasm came across, it’s too bad they didn’t hire an actress to play her.

Produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment, based in Canada? Too damned funny!

Maybe this is more evidence for the hypothesis the universe is a holographic entertainment program…

They should have gone to various schools, find children wearing a NASA shirt. First get parents permission, check to see if parent(s) don’t work for the agency or a aerospace company (don’t want “insiders”), then ask the child why they like space and if they want to be in a video (they may already have footage on their phones or already posted on YT).

This isn’t surprising. Most modern political events are stage-managed down to the very last inch. They would not have risked any possibility of the principal being asked to address any question or deal with any reaction that is not scripted long in advance.

Basically, there is no way VP Harris’s political handlers would have tolerated real kids with real opinions on space. Only the scripted recitation of her Chief of Staff’s pre-selected talking-points was acceptable.

Not only was it pretty bad, they obviously didn’t get the memo about face masks on all government property.

Not sure why actors were needed, other than to sit there quietly and ‘act’ interested, which ‘real’ children might not have done. But for cringeworthyness, this does not compare to the ‘educational videos’ produced for NASA Select TV a decade or so ago, which featured totally scripted child actors (think a science fair version of “Annie”).

This was pathetic – it did absolutely nothing to promote NASA to real children who would have immediately picked up how phoney and staged it all was. NASA really doesn’t do PR very well at all, and they do themselves, and everyone else a disservice when they drop the ball like this.
