It’s interesting. If this had happened without Putin’s war on Ukraine’s existence, I think I would have viewed this mostly as a quaint recognition of the anniversary of the end of WWII, if a bit odd to the western approach to that event. Just like the Russian flight suits in the proud school colors of Bauman Moscow State Technical University of a few weeks ago, I could imagine that Apollo 15 might have chosen to wear similar maize&blue colors to recognize their mutual association with the University of Michigan. Good for them. Was the flag thing planned long ago or tacked on recently? I have no idea. We’d do ourselves a favor if we didn’t have a cow every time some symbolic thing happens that tweaks our collective noses. That plays into the hands of the tweakers. So take a deep breath, Folks, ignore the petty insults and save your outrage for where it’s truly warranted. (Oh, and send some cash to help support the brave people of Ukraine.)
