Ann passed away on Sunday, December 3rd from a pulmonary embolism. She fought a brave battle against Rheumatoid Arthritis and the resulting lung disease but was happy and upbeat until the end.
One thing Ann would want you to remember about her life was her love of travel. This began with her time in the Air Force shortly after graduating from high school. Over the years she traveled the world with her last trip being to the Amazon just prior to the pandemic. Venice, Italy was her favorite place to visit but she did not limit herself to one place and enjoyed exploring new and different locations and meeting people throughout the world.
Ann was a native Washingtonian, graduating from McKinley Tech and later from George Washington University. She was appointed a Princeton Fellow in Public Affairs at Princeton University and attended the Advanced Management program at the Harvard Business School. In 1990 she received the rank of Meritorious Executive from President Bush and in 1994, NASA’s Outstanding Leadership Medal and rank of Distinguished Executive from President Clinton.
Ann retired in 1994 after 21 years with NASA and a total of 38 years of Federal Service. Over her long career she also held positions with the Agency for International Development and the C.I.A.
Ann is survived by her partner of 33 years, Caroline Shook, her brother and sister-in-law, James and Ann Bradley and her niece and nephews, Kathleen Elizabeth Thomas, Joseph Bradley and James Bradley, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Peter’s Church, St Vincent de Paul Ministry, 313 2nd St, SE, Washington, DC 20003 (provides help to those suffering from hunger, homelessness and poverty)”
