NASA Administrator Pays Tribute to Senior Advisor Mark Geyer, NASA
“Today, we mourn the loss of a giant for human spaceflight and a beloved member of the NASA family: former Johnson Space Center Director Mark Geyer. I offer my deepest condolences to Mark’s wife, Jackie, his three children, and the entire Geyer family. “Like so many Americans, Mark spent his childhood watching the Gemini and Apollo missions. It inspired him to join NASA. It is difficult to overstate the difference he made.”
Mark was a good man who has left an indelible imprint on the agency. I am so proud of what he accomplished and the many projects that we worked on together. The Agency has lost one of its finest.
I am extremely sad to hear this. I met and spoke to Mr Geyer in 2011 at the launch events for STS-135. He gave a few minutes of his valuable time to this Kiwi Space Geek and did me the honour of answering my questions. I send sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.
Mark was a good friend and colleague. He was very junior to me in ISS but he was always eager to learn. On one trip to KSC for a flight readiness review I took him over to see the Mercury and Gemini pads. They made a huge impact on him that had him talking for many months. He went on to be an extremely talented leader and always a friend. He will be missed.
Mark was a brilliant and also very warm person – even when we passed each other in Hobby Airport he would take time to come over and say hello.
