Putin Has Fired Rogozin

Dmitry Rogozin has been dismissed as director general of Roscosmos [Updated], Ars Technica
“This brings an end to Rogozin’s tumultuous career at Roscosmos, where he directly worked with the leaders of other international space agencies, including NASA and other International Space Station partners such as Europe, Canada, and Japan. Since the invasion of Ukraine, Rogozin has been increasingly bellicose and made numerous threats about Russian participation in the station. While most of those threats have ended up being hollow, they have damaged working relations with the West.”
What Dmitry Rogozin’s Firing Could Mean for Russia’s Approach to Space, Gizmodo
“McDowell doesn’t expect Russian space policy to change, but he hopes it will be less noisy. Borisov, given his military and defense background, will likely “support Putin’s Ukraine invasion just as much as Rogozin, but perhaps he won’t push that support in NASA’s face quite as much,” he said. Speaking of NASA, I reached out to the space agency for comment on Rogozin’s departure but have yet to hear back. I asked Cowing how NASA ought to respond. “Don’t gloat,” he replied.”

Ha ha! Maybe they will put a competent, capable person in; someone like Sergey Krikalev.

Putin doesn’t have any competent, capable people on his roster. If he did then they would be a threat to him and would be eliminated.

That might explain why the ISS seat swap negotiation seem to have been dragging on. Who is the front runner to take over? Is iss2030 even going to make it that long?

News coming out of Russia is that he will be reassigned to run the Eastern provinces of Ukraine. His replacement will be Yuri Borisov

Apparently he did so well on space that he has been promoted to run the Ukraine campaign.

More correctly. Rogozin was demoted to make room for Borisov who was demoted from a deputy prime minister position. Almost the same exact route Rogozin took previously.

Both Rogozin and Borisov are politicians with limited management skills who got appointed to positions way over their heads. Not that unusual with Putin’s appointments to his cabinet, since he values loyalty to competency.
