Obama did cancel the shuttle replacement program Constellation before a replacement program was in place and approved.

Because the Ares program’s costs were unsustainable. Then Congress hoisted another program – SLS – upon NASA which has yet to launch anything years late and billions over cost. Maybe the Obama folks saw this coming….

Because Constellation was an all out clusterfubar.

The president submits a NON binding budget PROPOSAL

A bipartisan congress refused to pass funding in a spending bill and that is the Act President Obama signed. If Obama could have simply waved a magic wand why didn’t SLS get it to? Congress refused to fund constellation and instead voted to fund SLS.

President Obama would have had to veto the funding bill in order to cancel the program. He didn’t veto.

I suspect there is no answer that will satisfy you.

No need to satisfy me Keith, I am simply asking a question about your assertion that it is just “fake space news”. I have seen my budgets increase significantly under this administration for planetary and exploration research. I would call those clear “investments” in NASA priorities. Unfortunately, under President Obama these programs were gutted and all was put into Earth Science, particularly Earth Climate research. Clearly, that is important too, but I always had to wonder when I saw so many “marching for science” in fear of the present administration — does solar system planetary science and extrasolar planetary research count as “science” , or is everything so focused on Earth climate research that we lose focus on other Decadal priorities for advancing broader knowledge under NASA science mission initiatives? I suspect that there is no response I can give that will satisfy you.

NASA was not asleep, gone, in decline, closed or any of the other term Trump has used. When they stand there and take credit for things like commercial crew its fake news since it started under O’Keefe, was brought closer to reality under Griffin, Brough into full development – up to launch under Obama. Trump just paid the;last bill and then threw a party to take credit – and make a campaign commercial.

Dude. Commercial Cargo was started under the Bush Administration. Commercial Crew started under Obama. We have sent probes to the Sun, the Moon, Jupiter, and to multiple asteroids. The International Space Station has been continually occupied for 20 years. Trump was out here telling folks NASA was closed. He is a fool.

President Obama was under sequestration because the conservative republicans and every right wing talking head had a daily mantra.

      DEFICITS DEFICITS DEFICITS

Not a day went by that they were not screaming about deficits. Then?

      A MIRACLE!

The day trump wins and as history of every right wing website shows Deficits SUDDENLY didn’t matter. trump has been spending like a drunken sailor .. just like with Reagan and just like Bush, pass massive tax cuts to the top 10% and pass on the unpaid bills to the Nation’s debt.

Now as we watch the income gap increase once again in it’s 40 year long trend since Reagan we can look forward to what always happens, we either start creating a police state, or a civil war.

Everyone should note that this tweet is in direct violation of the Hatch Act, which prohibits use of government resources for political campaigning. Add it to the mountain of illegal acts of this administration, which will take many years to prosecute.

surrender is actually a good word for it cancelling the constelation program put the US space program back a decade and abdicated leader ship to Russia which the United states became totally dependent to send astronauts to the ISS. at least President Trump unlike Presidents Bush and Obama put more money
into NASA to make Artemis happen.

NASA set the program back be decade due to its inability to make Constellation and then SLS work on time and within budget.

As a long-time student of Russia and a some-time resident, I have to say that the idea of Russia being a leader in space these days is kinda funny. Through a combination of funds bled off by corruption, funds redirected to higher priorities like the military and police, and funds flat-out lost because of the collapse of oil prices, Russia has become everything but a leader in space. No bucks, no Buck Rogerski.

Yet despite these problems Russia was one of only two nations
To have the capability to launch humans into space . and the US for almost a decade was totaly dependent on Russia .
Instead of a return to the moon in 2020 the US was reduced to a return to low Earth orbit.

“at least President Trump unlike Presidents Bush and Obama put more money into NASA”

Remind me again, President Obama, in his speech at Kennedy Space Center, called for a 6 billion increase for NASA over five years and it was voted down by who? On three separate occasions President Obama called for 1 billion extra for NASA and it was voted down by who again?

President Obama proposed funding commercial crew and each of the four budgets for commercial crew was chopped .. who voted that down AGAIN?

That’s right .. The Party of NO .. the republican’ts

      Try reading history.

Sounds legit to me. The “other” administration had us wasting time and money trying to lasso an asteroid and put it somewhere where we’d never visit it … probably just as well, it probably wouldn’t be that interesting anyway.
