Keith’s note: Power will eventually go out here in the metro DC area as hurricane Sandy strikes. When I go offline Marc Boucher will keep NASA Watch up to date from Toronto, Canada until such time as I get power back. Of course Toronto is going to get hammered too at some point so we may not update for a while. Who knows. Stay safe.

  4. Keith, get out of Washington. It’s not the storm, it’s the 3 weeks without electricity that sucks.  We have done that rodeo a lot down here and it is no fun.  Go visit Glenn, I hear they could use the tourism business.

    1. I live in Reston, VA. We rarely have power outages (even for mega storms) that last  for more than several days.  I have enough fuel and supply to go for weeks if need be. 

  6. Keith you lucked out.You were on the low speed side.The forward motion is subtracted,while NY got added.That happened to me once.100 mph about 75 mi. south,but 30 mph here and no rain.Small storm though.

    1. Our winds were less than forecasted, I guess. That said, my wife and I spent the night in the basement under the steel girders that support the house. After the damage to our house this summer from the derecho and all of the huge trees that fell around our house, we were not taking any chances.
