Keith’s note: If you look at this graphic it would seem to be something that you’d post on an internal website – not on an external, public social media account. or are they actually suggesting that they are going to try and modulate what citizens tweet to – and about – Space Force? I’m not sure that the Space Force social media folks totally understand that they are not in command of cyber “space”.
Whoever runs the Space Force social media squad needs a lesson in social media. They are totally tone deaf. A look at the responses to this tweet demonstrates that. You really can’t tell people in an open social media forum what they can and cannot say. That tactic simply breeds the very thing you do not want to see. Just sayin’.
I can’t say this is a surprise. I’m not shocked that senior, military officials are inclined to give orders. I’m not shocked that such a person doesn’t tweet, is unfamiliar with social media and doesn’t know what can and can’t be deleted. I am disappointed that such a person didn’t bother to check about whether or not an order is enforceable, but being disappointed isn’t the same as being surprised. It’s also disappointing that someone less senior but with more of a clue didn’t step up and politely correct his superior’s mistake. I hope the Space Force does a better job of operating satellites. But the US military does have a long record of accomplishing things _despite_ serious, high-level idiocy.
Yea there is a lot of ignorance and arrogance in that tweet.
If only they could convince the Commander-in-Chief to follow similar rules.
