Keith’s note: NASA NEEMO 21 is underway at Aquarius Base. Check @NASA_NEMO and @ReefBase on Twitter for updates. On Wednesday NASA JSC microbiologists talked about sending new genome sequencing technology that is being deployed on ISS to NEEMO. Clearly NEEMO is part of NASA’s overall #JourneyToMars thing. Yet for some strange reason NASA JSC PAO is not issuing anything about the current NASA NEEMO mission. No media advisories, NASA NEEMO website has not been updated since 2015, etc. If NASA does not take its own exploration activities seriously then why should anyone else?

  1. You can’t go to both the Moon and Mars, you certainly can’t go to the bottom of the ocean and go to Mars.

    Too complicated to explain the connection…since the public is too dumb to understand. DUH!

  2. Perhaps this is a time to follow the money, albeit along an unexpected axis…

    How many of these programs that get money are only getting it via earmarks from Congress? And, is there a correlation between earmarked programs and how much exposure the “management” at NASA (and their PAO) give them?

  3. NEEMO is a simulation of a space mission. The astronaut gets to spend time away in a remote location, dependent on hi tech systems, knowing that at any moment some problem might threaten his/her life. In a period when we are only flying a couple astronauts each year, this is about the most the astronauts can hope for instead of a real mission.
