The Ames Exchange Council: Star Trek Into Darkness
“Boldly go where no one has gone before! The Ames Exchange has bought out an entire theater for the NASA Ames workforce to view the new Star Trek Into Darkness film at AMC Mercado 20 at 4:30 PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Hard-badged employees may pick up their complimentary ticket at the Beyond Galileo gift shop starting this Thursday, May 16, 2013, but hurry, tickets are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.”

All tech companies have some sort of morale expenses. Ames’s expenses must pale compared to Google, Facebook and the other companies who continually try to hire away its workforce.

Besides, the Exchange operates mostly on non-NASA money. Last I checked things like this came out of the “profits” from operating the cafeteria, vending machines, etc. At $1.35 for a snickers bar I’m sure there’s plenty there for the occasional bulk movie ticket purchase.

when I meant must be nice, I meant that I wish they had done this at my center. All we ever get are calendars and mission stickers

The center “exchanges” are self funded through the gift shops, sales, and other services. I don’t know if Keith intended this as a criticism, but it’s a non story.

Huh? I posted the memo verbatim. I think this is cool. All NASA exchanges are non-profit organizations separate from the US government.
