– Report No. 114-____] Making appropriations for the Departments of Commerce and Justice, Science, and Related Agencies for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2016, and for other purposes. (NASA starts on Page 58).
– REPORT [To accompany _____] The Committee on Appropriations submits the following report in explanation of the accompanying bill making appropriations for Commerce, Justice, Science, and related agencies for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2016, and for other purposes.
This will get nasty. And more so after, should the earth Sci community lose this battle.
Hey now, the House Appropriations Committee is not a scientist.
(I’m still not sure how they use this as support for anything)
You don’t need to use it as support for anything. It stands on its own quite well.
That’s what you call pork barrel politics… Fund state level initiatives (jobs programs) and cut out the stuff that is contrary to your political beliefs (aka climate change research, competitive commercialization of space, etc.) how predictable!
Exploration Systems must mean the Senate Launch System??
Yes – see page BUD-5 on the link below for a further breakdown.

Hello – we are the Republicans and we are going to cut the best program going inside NASA and give those cuts to Boeing and Lockheed (and their lobbyists) so we can fly SLS exactly twice! We want to build engine test stands in Mississippi that we will never use! We want to renovate 60 year old buildings so we can “live off our legacy” of Apollo!
Here is looking at you Senator Shelby, Lamar Smith, and Steve Palazzo.
** Disclaimer – I am a Republican **
Agree. I hope they make those test stands somewhat future proofed so they can be used still someday if needed for whatever test program. It sounded like they were trying to do that for the pad.
A little suggestion, maybe you should say “independent conservative” or something. That way you don’t get pigeonholed by others thinking you support every thing that one party does. I’ve been doing similar for a long time. I wish I didn’t have to register to one party to vote in primaries in my state.
So even though someone from NASA testified that raising the SLS budget wouldn’t move up a launch date or increase the pace of system development/production, SLS gets the money any way, to the detriment of Commercial Crew. There must be another universe in which this makes sense.
