Keith’s note: I wondering why a non-profit organization like the Planetary Society overtly promotes the for-profit Netflix activities of its paid CEO Bill Nye.
I was a member of the Plantary Society before he was president left because of him.
Not to mention the fact that he is so prominently active on climate change and atheism, he turns off many conservative Hill supporters of NASA; he’s very visible but not very effective.
But he came so highly recommended as Doc Brown’s lab assistant 🙂
I’ve been listening to the PS podcast for sometime. On each episode, the very capable host introduces Emily Lackawanna for a short and always informed report. Then he goes to Nye for a similar short report, which inevitably has no content or waxes on and on about sails.
The guy is just irritatingly goofy. How he’s in the model of Carl Sagan is very hard to imagine.
I served on the board of directors of two non-profits and was employed by two others. This sort of thing is not what non-profits are supposed to do – and in my experience – would be highly frowned upon by lawyers, accountants – and the IRS.
When you have a professional entertainer as your CEO it is all about promotion, regardless if it for profit or non-profit.
