NASA cannot afford Mike Griffin. If President-Elect Trump and Vice-President-Elect Pence are serious about draining the swamp and truly making America great again then there is no way in HELL you can put in a failed NASA Administrator like Griffin.

Griffin is not fiscally responsible and under his watch Ares I, Ares V, and JWST all went wildly out of control. Not just fiscally but behind the scenes as well.

It is time to put in someone who will empower the rank and file at NASA and get rid of department heads who have no idea of how to maintain timelines and budgets (Griffin does not).

NASA (and the Trump Presidency) would not be well served by Griffin. Just go watch some of his testimony from September 22, 2011. Dear God if you are on the transition team you better watch that before you decide.

You are eaxctly correct. NASA management of Constellation was an abject failure on all counts and he was in charge.

No admin has been successful adding HSF missions beyond LEO as Congress has specified shuttle derived for decades. When in complete control in the 2000s, Congress abandoned the DOD fleet, added 3 flaws to the VSE, simply looked for a person to implement the plan, and did not fund BEO missions.

Bad data from folks with special interests changed the outcome of ESAS (they knew Ares I could not loft Orion). Combined with folks who simply wanted a job, not step up to challenges, and saw 1.5 launch was a clever, but expensive way, to retain the status quo and mock ‘directionless honeypots of open ended research’.

The admin can however have a tremendous impact on Earth Sciences and the science missions in general, not to mention the architecture forward. Goodluck to HSF with this tactic regardless of the admin.

I hear the next NASA Administrator could be: Elon Reeve Musk?

No, I do not think so.

For Musk to become Administrator, they would have to create a 48 hour day. Has a couple of other businesses to run.

Yes, to run NASA requires an administrator because administration is part of the NASA name. Running government as a business is too big a challenge for anyone. Oh wait, Trump plans to do just that!
