Acting NASA Deputy Administrator Lesa Roe Departing

NASA power player will become new University of North Texas boss, Dallas News
“Thursday, University of North Texas regents are expected to select a longtime NASA leader to help launch the system into a new era of research and exploration. Lesa Roe will be announced as the sole finalist for the position of chancellor. Roe, who is currently acting as NASA’s second in command, will replace longtime leader Lee Jackson, who is retiring after 15 years.”

      Gee. I hope UNT doesn’t suddenly get center of excellence or a large increase in funding from NASA.

        Why not? A biased selection, as some sort of backroom deal, would certainly be unethical. But we have no evidence of that and suggesting that is unfair to everyone involved. At the same time, UNT just hired someone who knows all about the sort work NASA is interested in funding and exactly what sort of information needs to go into a successful proposal. With her help, I expect UNT will be submitting higher quality proposals, and that means they probably will get more of them funded. That could, in a perfectly ethical manner, result in increased NASA funding. I don’t see a problem with that.

          Agreed. This is exactly the kind of thing we want NASA to be doing— spread the wealth (the information wealth, I mean).

          I’d like to know more about this lady, though.
