  1. All this buffoonery reminds me of the movie Office Space. Very, very glad I retired early.

  4. It doesn’t seem that these people are embarrassed by their videos. Shouldn’t the headline read, “NASAWatch is embarrassed by JSC holiday video.” And if so, why precisely?

      1.  If NASAWatch wasn’t embarrassed, and the makers of the video don’t seem to be embarrassed, then why does the headline you wrote read “Another Annual Embarrassing NASA JSC Holiday Video”?

Really looking forward to a release of a Gangnam Style parody, sounds good, hope they pulled it off well.  They need to do one on the ISS, although it might be hard to do with only half a dozen people onboard.   Maybe they will invent forms of weightless dancing, replacing ‘engineering research and technology development’ with ‘entertainment research and techno development’.

    1. “NASA Johnson Style” managed over 22,000 hits in less than a day, pretty impressive.  Can it beat “We’re NASA and We Know It”?   The NASA Johnson Style parody is even better than I’d expected.  

      For those near-fossilized folks that haven’t noticed, the original Gangnam Sytle is nearing a Billion You Tube hits, highest ever.   Good for the co-ops and videographers.  Beyond music and dancing, they included a well-timed blend of space, launch, vehicles, science, labs, stars, Moon, Mars, Asteroid, and facilities.  I’d hoped to see Robonaut programmed to do Gangnam Style dance moves, but I suppose programming costs would have killed that move.

  13. Maybe, NASA should be spending taxpayer dollars on trying to reach beyond LEO instead of making stupid videos. I’m old enough to remember when NASA had a clear goal. I suggest NASA get back to business of human exploration and leave stupid videos to independent filmmakers. We are all getting tired of the excuses. 

    1.  Sadly, Mark the world and how it communicates has changed and you have not. NASA hasn’t been successful in doing the type of Human Exploration you and I dream of. One glaring reason is the general public is clueless of what NASA does, and they after all are the constituents that matter when it comes to the taxpayer dollars you are so concerned with. So wouldn’t it make sense to try something different in reaching these taxpayers so they advocate for Exploration beyond LEO, or at a minimum become curious about NASA? We know the  approach of the past of “getting back to business” alone is unrealistic in yielding the outcome we desire. I’m certain you have heard the saying “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

    Gangnam is stupid, sure, but that video captures a lot of the sense of adventure, passion and fun that space exploration is supposed to be. And, yeah, I’m a spacecraft systems engineer and I think it’s exactly what NASA PAO should be trying to capture. Bloody well done all.

  15. Well, so much for the One NASA concept.  What is it with these guys:  it’s all about the Johnson.  What are they trying to compensate for?
