Keith’s update: We did not have any luck establishing two-way communication between ISEE-3 and DSN today. We’ll regroup and try again on Sunday. This does not affect our plan to do a short series of engine burns on 21 June (Saturday) to spin up the spacecraft.

  1. Keith: What does ‘not have any luck’ mean? Do I read correctly that reliable communications with the spacecraft haven’t been achieved, or is it SOP in the business that sometimes even DSN can’t speak to a particular spacecraft due to weather or some sort of alignment or the polar vortex or whatever?

    1. The issue is procedural. A quirk in how the coherent ranging mode works for this spacecraft.
