Keith’s note: With every budget crisis NASA fans say that everyone needs to know how little is spent on NASA and how great the Return On Investment is. As soon as the crisis passes NASA dials that back. NASA has no idea who their audience(s) are or how to talk to them as peers. Just pretty pictures and floating astronauts talking to school kids. Another crisis hits and the cycle repeats. This time its existential. Deal with it. Stand up and say something. If you do not then no one else will. Embrace THAT challenge.

I’ve been trying but it all lands on deaf ears. I’ve written my Congress representatives and even Ted Cruz. I saw that Cruz wants to add $10B and that would be nice, he just needs to understand there are huge varieties of science and research associated with space travel, so you just don’t fork over $10B to one program, it needs to go across the board, to all centers. Every center plays a role in our landing on Mars first. But now you are getting ready to lay off the smartest Engineers and Scientists on the planet.
