Jared Isaacman Is Not Going To Lead NASA
Jared Isaacman – SpaceX

Keith’s note: My sources and various news outlets are reporting White House spokesmouth confirmation that Jared Isaacman is not going to head NASA. The nomination of Jared Isaacman was inspired. His un-nomination is beyond stupid. He is – or would have been – a bright light at NASA at a time when that is really needed – a true believer in the agency, its people, and its potential. Ad Astra Jared.

Colossal mistake by the administration to yank his nomination because of politics. But I am not surprised. They can’t do anything right.

Agreed. This is the most disturbed I’ve been about my own future at NASA since the election, honestly. Even worse than the budget stuff which I always felt like would end up working out somehow. A hardcore MAGA showing up and running NASA like Hegseth runs DoD or Bought runs OMB would devastate the culture here.

Relatedly: “The Trump administration did not immediately name a new nominee, but two people told Ars that former US Air Force Lieutenant General Steven L. Kwast may be near the top of the list. Now retired, Kwast has a distinguished record in the Air Force and is politically loyal to Trump and MAGA.

However, his background seems to be far less oriented toward NASA’s civil space mission and far more focused on seeing space as a battlefield—decidedly not an arena for cooperation and peaceful exploration.”

Jared was an “enlightened” billionaire in an administration rife with billionaires poised to head agencies that regulate and develop the industries where their fortunes are made. There was no bright spot to be had. He had numerous conflicts or interests and no real connection to the purveyors of the budget. He might have been better than Howard Lutnick, but he didn’t have the savvy or the chops to take the agency where it needs to go. His replacement will be worse, no doubt, but that’s the point. Only the true believers get to govern in this administration.

How do you know that “didn’t have the savvy or the chops to take the agency where it needs to go”? I love it when people with goofy fake names makes these pronouncement about things they cannot possibly know. You might want to find another website to shout at the sky.

He can do better than overseeing the scuttling of NASA. The light he points to can guide all the very skilled exiles from NASA to dry land.

What an incredibly dumb move, but given #47’s demand for absolute adherence to all things MAGA; not surprising. Perhaps they’ll tap former Administrator Jim Bridenstine? He’s a GOPer through and through, did a pretty good job last time and should be a fairly easy nomination to get confirmed quickly. Then again, knowing #47s track record of embracing conspiracy theories and nominating totally unqualified individuals for important positions, the next nominee could very well be someone previously abducted by aliens.

    From the arstechnica article:

He doesn’t seem like a total nutjob from a cursory google but is very into militarizing space.
