Goofy Mars Conspiracies Part 2 (Update)

NASA Denies That It’s Running a Child Slave Colony on Mars, Daily Beast
“A report on Alex Jones’ InfoWars claiming child sex slaves have been kidnapped and shipped to Mars is untrue, NASA told The Daily Beast on Thursday. “There are no humans on Mars. There are active rovers on Mars. There was a rumor going around last week that there weren’t. There are,” Guy Webster, a spokesperson for Mars exploration at NASA, told The Daily Beast. “But there are no humans.”
Keith’s note: President Trump is a big fan of this website, so I guess NASA needs to update its teen outreach (and capture) programs.
Keith’s update: I was just interviewed by BBC Live at Five about this nonsense. Audio below.

Alex’s “logik” probably figured that since kids’ lungs are smaller than adults, they therefore don’t need much air.

OMG. April 1 is the only traditional day for fake news. Now it is every day. But nice interview Keith.
The ignorance of our societies will only increase over time as we get another 2 billion on this planet. I don’t have high hopes of the future of our species. The human experiment will fail spectacularly. Very sad.

“Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
      If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
Would scarcely know that we were gone.”
From a poem by Sara Teasdale.

NASA should have NOT replied, it only feeds the trolls.

The bigger concern should be the robot army on Mars. First there was one “rover” on Mars, then two, now a total of four. At this rate there could be a million by the end of the month. Troubling times.

Isn’t this the same Alex Jones that believes we faked the Moon landings? But now that same government is kidnappimg kids and sending them to Mars?

If this is what passes for serious discussion today then we are doomed.

Well. Then how do you explain all of those objects that look like they are parts of a machine? And how to you explain the Face? You can’t! And that’s why Alex is right! Plus, look at all the milk cartons! Wouldn’t you think we’d have found those so-called missing kids by now? We can’t because they are on Mars! Why, it’s hyper dimensional, of course, and NASA has been hiding the secret for years.

    Think, people! It’s common sense!

    Ummmm…

Do Flat Earthers believe Mars is flat?

    (laughs maniacally)

IMHO some minds are more vacuous than the Martian atmosphere.

Sadly, ignorance is curable while stupidity is, functionally, terminal. There are none so stupid as those who refuse enlightenment.

Hey, yeah! Of course Mars is flat! That explains everything!
It only looks red, barren, and lifeless, but that’s because we’ve been looking at the underside all this time.

(The canals, child-tended mines and floating cities of their green overlords must be top-side!)

Hey, I’VE GOT IT! Put the two conspiracies together. NASA IS HIDING THE KIDNAPPED CHILDREN ON DEVON ISLAND!

    (JK, BTW)

Yes, of course. How could we have missed that? And they are clearly using the metabolic heat from all the kidnapped children to produce fake indications of global warming. The fact that the arctic ice pack is more affected than the antarctic is also telling. NASA must not have a similar project in the southern hemisphere.

(If the Weekly World News were still in business, I might be able to sell this to them and supplement my grant funding…)

    How does this exist?

Yep. I understand that. We will maybe have to have a mobilization of normal non-idiot people someday. That could actually be critical to the democratic process and in a way a national security issue. Having a large percentage of people not believe election results could be a problem (like the 3 million illegal votes thing). But I’d like to think that if it came down to it, most people wouldn’t actually believe non-fact, no-evidence BS. Lots of areas have wiggle room though and that stuff can thrive there.

And he’s right about Facebook. There will be other places, but FB is big and should work on it. It sucks that they have to, because they are a platform for people to communicate as they wish. But the stuff that gets the most attention, and therefore what FB uses to keep people on FB more often isn’t factual.

Thanks, that’s a good video to refer to others when talking about this. I don’t plan to ever use the word “post-truth” though.

Does this explain the Fermi Paradox?

This phase rejecting reality would explain the extinction of alien civilizations, wouldn’t it? (The idea that this is unique to humans seems a symptom of hubris.)

The real problem is that reality does not provide any “real” sense of certainty… and, for some reasons, humans seem to crave certainty.

I’ve been seeing on Facebook, YouTube and other social media access forums just this morning – and this is not hyperbole – an enormous, apocalyptic surge of anti-Space propaganda and conspiracy excrement. Those formats are becoming a sewer of troll-hate and science-shaming nonsense. I said a few years ago that this was organized by a hardened few nutjobs. But no – it’s far worse than that; it is becoming an actual, mainstream pass time for trolls and dimwits with an actual anti-science, anti-history and anti-Space agenda.

Their mandate is literally as I said ‘science shaming’. It’s going beyond alternate facts and into alternate reality. Reading some of this stuff – you might wonder if you’ve stumbled into an episode of the Twilight Zone. It used to be annoying, it used to be banal – now it is becoming toxic. If you challenge these people – some of them will find ways to contact you; bombarding your email, voicemail and Facebook, Twitter etc with threats and hatred; treating you like you were some sort of pariah who in another context would be receiving the same abuse as someone who stomps on puppies, was a racist or some sort of molester. Standing up for Apollo, the Martian Rovers and even the Chinese Yutu lunar rover – I have been threatened through the internet (somewhat impotently) – “I’m going to ruin you – I’m going to stop your Globalist lies!!” but also threatened in person in my own country whilst running a Space Exploration and Astronomy display. The guy said he was going to “Sort me out – Take me outside and fix my lying rubbish by force”. He was escorted out by security after my companion at the event ran to get them.

You can ignore this stuff – say it doesn’t happen – say it’s an exaggeration – say I’m a voice crying in the wilderness; like John Houbolt. But this stuff is REAL folks. You’ll be interacting with them soon. Mark my words on this day. Matt Pavletich. Auckland, New Zealand.

And just an update note, while we’ve been on the subject: It now appears that as far as I can personally see – and I can’t look or be everywhere – nearly every article or post about space exploration or Astronomy on Facebook, Twitter, Space.com, NASA sites and popular science websites, not to mention on mainstream news services’ comments sections… I say again; *NEARLY every* first comments are now from conspiracy sheep, flat-earthers or science-shamers, denigrating or denying the reality of Space Exploration.

It has rapidly become worse, even just over the last few days we’ve all talked about this! Unless I really am mistaken or really are paranoid – there appears to be an organized movement behind this. Or at the very least, a huge groundswell of a tragic, very dumb mindset. You only have to look – if you wanna risk getting depressed – to see that I’m correct. :'( 🙁
