NASA Administrator Charles Bolden Apollo 11 45th Anniversary Message, SpaceRef
Marc’s Note: It’s hard to believe that it’s been 45 years since Apollo 11. I was five years old and glued to my television like so many other people. That moment in time provided inspiration to countless people around the world.

I was hoping there would be an anniversary landing for the 50th.

Not with this anemic amount of funding.

The real party is going to be here in Dallas this weekend when we have our sixth annual Moon Day event at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field. That’s right, we started doing this back on the 40th anniversary, and the event keeps getting bigger and better each year. This year we’ve even got Texas Instruments and Lockheed Martin coming out to run mini-STEM Faires at Moon Day. Lunar Sample Bag swag bags for the kids, stuffed with space goodies. Family-friendly classes like ISS 101 and Telescopes 101 in our Moon Academy, and adult-oriented lectures like the presentation from NSBE on their recent White Paper “Unlimited Horizons”, or from Dallas Mars Society on Mars Settlement. Three (3) inflatable planetariums, space art, spacesuits, real Moon rocks, a screening of Postcards from the Future, just on and on.

If you’re stuck in Houston this weekend you could always hop over to Victoria, TX and the Museum of the Coastal Bend, which is also having a Moon Day event.

Up in Indiana you can stop by the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis on Sunday: https://www.childrensmuseum

Or if you’re stuck in D.C. (Sux2BU), the National Air & Space Museum is having a ‘Discover the Moon Day’ next Friday the 25th. Basically the same as my event in Dallas, but with way more resources to work with.

India also likes Moon Days, and I’ve found at least one so far for this year: http://kidscontests.in/2014

Landing on the Moon has been the most significant achievement so far in the human story – exult in and celebrate that achievement!

Or as my friends Bill and Ted always say: “Be excellent to one another, and…party on, dudes!”
