NASA Center for Climate Simulation Mass Storage System Decommission
NCCS MSS

Keith’s note: the following was sent out to users of the NCCS MSS – NASA Center for Climate Simulation MSS (Mass Storage System) managed out of NASA Goddard: (more below)

As the budget picture gets clearer, we are accelerating our plans to decommission MSS in order to conserve funding. You have received five emails over the past six months asking you to review your MSS holdings and delete any unneeded data. At this point in time, we must ask you to move any data that you wish to preserve to another storage platform.

Due to funding cuts we will not be renewing hardware maintenance after Oct 1, 2025. You must review your data in your $ARCHIVE directory and appropriately disposition the data by Aug 31, 2025. Make sure to perform any removal, recall, or copy operations from the Dirac front-end instead of over the network from Discover.

Any data remaining after Sept 1, 2025 will be considered “abandoned” and we cannot guarantee that you will be able to successfully retrieve any MSS data after Oct 1, 2025.

We recognize that this is an additional challenge during a very challenging time and thank you for making the time to disposition your data.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
