Stephen Colbert To Receive NSS Award from Buzz Aldrin May 3 on The Colbert Report
“On Thursday, May 3, Stephen Colbert will be presented with the National Space Society’s 2012 Space Pioneer Award for Mass Media on his popular show, The Colbert Report, on the Comedy Central cable network. The award will be presented by Apollo XI Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, a member of the NSS Board of Governors and friend of Colbert’s.”

    Folks:

    Well deserved. Let’s not forget that Colbert won that ‘Name That Node’ contest (which NASA choked on, naming a treadmill after him as a consolation prize). He can put his NSS award beside the split SRB hold down bolt given to him by the last Shuttle crew. “You actually have to ‘bust a nut’ to get into space…” quipped Colbert.

    It’s definitely a well-deserved award.  Kudos to him for helping the next generation to think of space as being as cool as we did 40 years ago.  Kudos also to Colbert for handling Buzz’s appearance so well.  He managed it beautifully.  Here’s a link to the segment:  http://www.colbertnation.co

      Interesting how hard the crowd went up when Aldrin appeared. Colbert encouraged them, but the pitch was high before he spoke.
      People love Poppa Space.
