Greg Autry – NASA’s DOGEFather

Keith’s note: Greg Autry has been nominated to be the next NASA CFO. In other words he’ll be NASA DOGEFather. Based on earlier public comments you can expect zero sympathy for the erasure of NASA’s greatest asset: its diverse expertise (see screen grab below). Update: official NASA words. Oh yes: they spelled his name wrong in the nomination. Nice way to start. “PN55-3 — Gregory Autrey — National Aeronautics and Space Administration https://www.congress.gov/nomination/119th-congress/55/3 — 03/24/2025 Placed on Senate Executive Calendar in the Privileged Nomination section with nominee information requested by the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, pursuant to S.Res. 116, 112th Congress.” (more below)

Somebody else said “we went from the DEI admin to the DUI admin” and I think that about sums it up.
Europe/Canada/Australia/UK might want to come and take away the keys from their alcoholic uncle named Mr. Liberty.
The tone does not surprise me. In 2024 I criticized Autry’s willingness to coauthor a book with Peter Navarro, who spent time in federal prison for obstructing the 1/6 insurrection investigation. He came back at me quite harshly, saying “my side” was only reaping what “we” sowed by protesting Trump’s inauguration in 2017, when Autry’s own dinner in a fancy restaurant in DC was disrupted. Weirdly personal reason to justify an attack on the US Congress. Since the election, despite his team winning Greg has only seemed angrier on social media, respond to even diplomatically phrased criticism like Garver’s with bitter talk of personal grievance and looking forward to vengeance. Not a very inspiring attitude even for an academic and worrying in a senior executive with decisionmaking power at a federal agency.
Here’s another D word for you, Autry. Despicable. I hope your workforce scorns you as deserved.
