NASA Leadership Announcement: International, Interagency Relations
Karen Feldstein

Keith’s note: First of all: Karen Feldstein: thank you for the decades service you provided NASA and your support not only of NASA but of space exploration by/for everyone – everywhere. According to NASA: Today, Karen Feldstein, associate administrator for international and interagency relations, announced she is leaving the agency after more than 30 years of distinguished public service. She leaves behind a legacy of strong American leadership in the global space community.

During her tenure, Karen forged trusted relationships, advanced high-value partnerships to meet NASA mission priorities, and championed the spirit of cooperation that has expanded the agency’s international reach. Honored with Presidential Rank Awards by successive administrations in 2019 and 2024, her leadership has helped shape some of our most consequential international collaborations in human spaceflight, science, and aeronautics. Karen has played a pivotal role in strengthening the U.S. civil space program and contributing to broader national objectives, such as the development and expansion of the Artemis Accords.

Effective Monday, Aug. 18, Meredith McKay will serve as acting associate administrator for the Office of International and Interagency Relations (OIIR). Currently the office’s deputy associate administrator, Meredith brings more than 20 years of experience in international engagement and public policy, including collaborations that support the nations’ long-term exploration goals. Her deep understanding of the global space landscape, strong relationships across governments and agencies, and proven leadership within OIIR make her exceptionally well suited to lead this office during a critical time.

NASA’s ability to lead in space depends on close, confident partnerships across the government and worldwide. With Karen’s lasting contributions, Meredith’s steady leadership, and the strength of the OIIR team, we are well positioned to continue this vital work with consistency and purpose.

Please join me in thanking Karen for her extraordinary service and wishing her the very best in her next chapter – and in welcoming Meredith as she steps into this important role.
