Keith’s note: according to a LaRC participant: “The overall sentiment was one of transparency, sharing information as it comes, and empathy. The Center Director has been proactive communicating when information is available. And has shared multiple resources for the LaRC employees. While I’m only one of a few thousand, I personally feel the Center Director cares deeply about the group and is doing her best to try and help LaRC as we try to survive this absolute shit show.” Details below.

DRP 1 & 2:

  • Agency: 2915
  • LaRC: 307
  • 23% of supervisors – pitched as a growth opportunity during the town hall

LaRC Stats

  • LaRC VERA/VSIP: 59
  • LaRC is taking a 50% budget cut
  • LaRC Aeronautics budget: 36% reduction
  • Many SMD missions at LaRC are being descoped or cancelled
  • STMD has about a 50% reduction in work product at LaRC
  • There was a lot of encouragement to reach out to the EAP to discuss options and getting access to resources for mental health.

All of LaRC’s aeronautics work should be moved to AFRC… just like Ames’ aero work was back in the late 90s. This would save money and be more efficient.

I’m sure we’d be able to do some great research in all those non-existent wind tunnels and ground test facilities at AFRC.

And get rid of the oldest NASA center? With a large number of fixed facilities? If we can’t even afford to properly paint the gantry there’s no way we can afford to rebuild it in California.

That won’t happen. California is a blue state and it’s sadly obvious that the folks presently in charge want blue states to suffer the most.
