GeoEye Looks For LCROSS

This GeoEye-1 satellite image shows the LCROSS crater impact area on the Moon. This image was taken when the GeoEye-1 Earth-imaging satellite was on the dark side of the Earth over the central Pacific heading northward at a speed of 4 miles per second. The image was taken 47 seconds after Centaur's impact. Resolution is about 230 meters.

I wish the LCROSS team had paid more attention to getting out some prompt results.

Publishing this pic seems to imply we ought to be able to spot something, but I don't see anything obvious. Keith, did they have a caption where you retrieved this image? All I notice is that it's higher resolution than I expected for an Earth-looking system refocused at 380,000 km.

I'm a scientist and a patient guy, and I don't mind waiting for the analysis to yield a publishable result, but I can hear the impatience of the general public. To them this still looks like a disappointment. Positive marks for crashing exactly on target with all the instruments running, but negative marks for "I still don't see anything."
