Well, we all wish there was a better president to present it to, but all services have ceremonial flags, so the USSF will be no different.

Not “all”. I am satisfied with our President. Far from perfect, but satisfied. As for the flag, meh, standard stuff, not really news. Every agency slaps their emblem on a background cloth and stands it in the corner.

Sure, but colors are also presented in parades, at unit activations and inactivations, and campaign streamers representing the services’ history are affixed to the top. So, they don’t *just* stand in the corner.

Trump loves all this military stuff, despite being a draft dodger.

At least he doesn’t pronounce “Marine Corps” as “Marine Corpse”, and other indicators of willful ignorance that almost elicit a Clintonian disdain for the military by the Commander in Chief. The idea, that either people who serve, or have served, or simply back the military, don’t notice the difference is a further sign of willful ignorance.

While most people have no connection with the military, even fewer connected with the space program, virtually all effected with recent events… not sure how this presentation will go over. People will first see huge dollar amounts on something they have no connection with while suffering economic hardship like in the 1930s.

So the Commander And Chief of the United States Armed Forces is presented a flag from a newly created branch of said Armed Forces, and this is bad? This whole post exists to bash the president, because clearly no thought was put into it other than “Hate the Orange man!”

Not sure I would agree with this assessment. The leanings of our host are easy enough to learn, but it’s his site, and anyway he’s pretty much low key. And there are plenty of red folks around here to balance the blue ones like me.

      So, don’t be so touchy!

I’m not bashing the president. I’m bashing the inane idea of the Space Force, as though its stated job wasn’t being adequately done by interservice cooperation already.

question … is the Space Force part of or separate to the USAF ?
if separate (as I thought it was) then why does the round “seal” include “Department of Air Force” ?

To answer my own question … initially USAF Space Command, became US Space Force (within the USAF), and has (or will) become a separate US Space Force. So the “seal” is from the transition state, and is not directly associated with the separate Space Force … ie the flag and the “Seal” are different Space Forces.

If I were a Roddenberry descendant, I’d sue, because that thing looks like a Starfleet symbol.

well, the Roddenberry-esque arrow head is a carry over form the earlier USAF Space Command.

It’s been pointed out here by someone else that the Star Trek logo is arguably derivative, preceded by earlier DoD art.

Does the Space Force have a song yet? The Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines all have their songs. What song would you propose for the Space Force?
