'Gov' Okoloise

“Governor A. Okoloise passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at age 49. His family came to America from Nigeria when he was a boy. Gov, as we called him, worked at Johnson Space Center for the past 24 years. A dedicated space worker, he certified space life sciences and exercise hardware throughout the 90s. Most recently, he was responsible for the design, assembly and safety of the EMU Space suit and hardware used during ISS space walks (EVA). He was a congenial and personable friend to everyone, going out of his way to help others as much as possible.”
His Mother and seven siblings survive him, and all who knew him will greatly miss him.
A brief flag raising ceremony in his honor, today at 12:50 PM, will be held, where the American flag over the Mission Control Center will be presented to his family.

Gov was one of the nicest and most professional guys I ever had the privilege to work with. Shocked to hear of his passing… He was a wonderful human being…
I graduated with Gov at Alief Elsik 1987. I had the privilege of knowing him mainly through football. I have the most fondest memories of him. I remember like yesterday that when we would go out on the weekends,Gov, would be our designated driver. Always the calm, cool, and the mature one in our circle of friends. I don’t know how many times all of us would tease him to drink beer with us, but always with a beautiful smile, he would stand his ground and say, no thanks. Looking back to those Elsik days, there was no one finer and respectful than Gov. Mature beyond his years. Although my heart is deeply sad to hear of his passing, it brings me peace and comfort to have known Gov in my early teen years. We love you Gov! Rest In Peace my friend. We will all miss him dearly.

This fine man was doing a job many of us would like to do. It must have been a privilege to work with him.
Gov was one of the best. Working with him over the years was a real pleasure. He will be missed. Next fall when I watch the Cowboys play I’ll be thinking of him.
